IR-12ST-X -- IRIS Breakaway Connector The Intelligent Traffic System fiber optic breakaway interface connector is a revolutionary design that has been given the thumbs-up by Intelligent Traffic Engineers and members of the ISMA. This new connector installs in minutes, provides a water-proof, salt proof and dust proof connection, acts as a direct equipment interface and best of all, breaks away on contact to prevent collateral damage to components and cabling systems. Provide up to twelve optical interface connections that are totally maintenance free at the break away point, the IRIS connector meets all the requirements of NEMA 2TS for shock and vibration as well as numerous ANSI Standards for hazardous duty connector applications. The IRIS connector mounts to any 2”, 3” or 4” pedestal pad stub-up, leaving ample passage for other electrical cables to by-pass the breakaway connection. Designed for easy retrofit to existing cabinets, the IRIS can either be specified for new installations or adapted to older cabinets undergoing modernization. The IRIS breakaway connector automatically splits in half when a vehicle impacts the intersection cabinet, DMS or highway node. The top half of the connector stays with the cabinet while the bottom half, along with the drop cable attachment, remains undisturbed in the concrete base pad.
